The Role of Primer before applying Bluesky Gel Polish
In the context of a professional-grade manicure, a primer is a foundational pre-treatment product designed to optimize the bond between the natural nail and the subsequent layers of gel polish.
Specifically, for the Bluesky Gel Polish system, the primer (often an acid-free formula) serves as a critical preparation step that ensures the longevity and durability of the manicure.
The primary function of a primer is to act as a chemical anchor.
While a base coat provides a smooth surface for color application, the primer works at a molecular level to prepare the nail plate.
It performs three essential tasks: it dehydrates the nail to remove surface moisture, degreases it by eliminating natural oils, and creates a tacky surface that allows the base coat to adhere more effectively.
Unlike the base coat, color coats, and top coat, the Bluesky Acid-Free Primer does not require curing under a UV or LED lamp. It is designed to air-dry rapidly. The correct sequence for a long-lasting Bluesky manicure is as follows:
Preparation: Shape the nails, push back the cuticles, and lightly buff the nail surface to remove shine.
- Cleansing: Use a cleanser or alcohol wipe to remove dust and debris.
- Primer Application: Apply a very thin layer of the Bluesky Primer to the natural nail. Avoid touching the cuticle or surrounding skin.
- Air Drying: Wait approximately 30 to 60 seconds for the primer to air-dry. It will remain slightly tacky to the touch—this is intentional.
- Base Coat: Apply the Bluesky Base Coat directly over the primed nail and cure under a lamp as per instructions.
Pro Tip: If you have naturally "oily" nails or find that your gel polish often lifts within a few days, using a primer is the most effective way to extend the life of your manicure to the full 14–21 days promised by the Bluesky Gel Polish system
